Beals L.E.S

Toronto-based Beals L.E.S returns with a new mixtape 30 Point Nights, on the heels of his late winter 2020 debut commercial single “Young Black & Gifted”.

Produced by up & coming Canadian beatsmith Druuleague, 30 Point Nights reflects Beals’ longtime basketball passion and deep understanding of the hardcourt game, distilled into his lyrical acumen on tales of street life and aspirational striving.

Druuleague’s soulful collages, dusty drums and dark basslines on songs like “Clock Work” and the title track “30 Point Nights”, slickly complement Beals as he breaks down the internal struggles, industry challenges and life on the grind for an MC on the come up in Toronto.

Born to a Nigerian father and a mother from Nova Scotia, Beals L.E.S is a 1st generation Canadian native, writing his first rhymes inspired primarily by 1990s hip-hop, strongly influenced by Mobb Deep and the Wu Tang Clan -- particularly from members Ghostface Killah & Raekwon. Super-lyrical on wordplay, even at times creating his own slang, this wordsmith’s appeal lies within a certain authenticity found in ‘vintage’ hip-hop.

A prolific writer, Beals (his last name) L.E.S (Life's Everyday Struggle -- also Lower East Side of Toronto), is convinced that "if you don't rap with a chip on your shoulder, you shouldn't be rapping" because as he put it simply, "you should always wanna prove something or something to yourself."

Today, Beals nods to the high-profile lyricists maintaining consistent weight as prime MCs: Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, Benny The Butcher of NY’s deep benched Griselda Records, Roc Marciano, and Detroit's Royce da 5'9, among other keepers of this spitting science.

Before the year is out, Beals L.E.S plans to keep the flame lit with his debut commercial EP Beloved, promising more of the same bars and beats that are putting him in class with his Northern cohort from the T-Dot.
